Once again our wonderful community of Antelope Valley demonstrates outstanding generosity.
On August 4, 2012, High Desert Cruisers Car Club added a special twist to their monthly car show at Louis Burgers in Lancaster. A fundraiser for Saddle Up Therapeutic Riding Stables kicked off with Jim Vernon, VP of the organization, offering to cut off his pony tail if people would donate $200 to the riding program. Additionally, his hair would be donated to Angel Hair Foundation to make wigs for cancer victims. What an amazing offer!
This caused a great stirring in the hearts of quite a few amicable citizens. People started donating money towards Jim’s goal. Mike Bench, one of the sponsors of High Desert Cruisers and President of Absolute Bail Bonds offered up $200 for each additional haircut or shaved head.
On that sweltering afternoon, in the High Desert of Los Angeles, a wonderful hairstylist donated her time and expertise to cut the hair of anyone who wanted to participate in this great endeavor. Thirteen people, in all, donated their hair to the 2 causes. With the generosity of many, Mr. Vernon’s goal was exceeded. Along with a substantial contribution by Louis Burgers and Absolute Bail Bonds, an overall $4,410 was raised!
One man’s passion and desire to help bring joy to exceptional individuals, who benefit from the equine-facilitated activities of Saddle-Up, resulted into a fascinating communal response of kindness and giving.
Let’s share an equally giving spirit along with these who show what graciousness and community is all about.
